Summer Mentor Institute May 29-30

Texas Education THRIVE at the UT College of Education is excited to be hosting a FREE learning experience focused on coaching, mentoring and support systems for early-career teachers. This experience will take place May 29th - 30th at the University of Texas at Austin. Additional information about location, parking and other logistics will be sent to you before the conference.

The institute will feature interactive sessions facilitated by UT faculty, doctoral students and educators from surrounding Austin-area school districts, focusing on:

  • Transformational Mindsets, which we define as cultivated stances and values that prioritize an asset-based, reflective, and empathetic frame used to inform the multidimensional work of mentors, early-career teachers, and school leaders. These mindsets include: embracing self-awareness, recognizing strengths, fostering growth and resilience, designing at the margins, and pushing for change.
  • Instructional Practices that (a) support the design and delivery of differentiated, high-quality instruction for all learners; (b) are informed by data collection; and (c) demonstrate and encourage safe, engaging, and responsive classroom environments.
  • Coaching Strategies inclusive of (a) observation and feedback cycles; (b) building strong, caring, and responsive interpersonal relationships; and (c) creating a culture of continuous learning for long-term success.
  • Navigating Systems in ways that (a) build and leverage relationships and resources, (b) advocate for students, self, mentee, and systems change; and (c) translate policies and culture into practice.
